How To Get More Fiber In Your Diet

High Fiber FoodsMost appetite suppressants essentially add fiber to your diet.  One such suppressant is Appesat, which I have reviewed previously.  As part of that review, I recommended another hoodia product, UniqueHoodia, instead of Appesat for plenty of reasons stated on my previous article, one of which is that UniqueHoodia is much cheaper.  However, you can get your fiber to boost your diet from other cheaper, healthier sources.

High-fiber cereals that are sold aplenty in all supermarkets boast of keeping suppressing your appetite by keeping you full until lunch.  Fiber acts as a natural appetite suppressant, and with a few changes to your diet, you can increase your fiber intake to lose weight.  I personally recommend making bite-sized, manageable changes to your diet, rather than a big, radical one.  These adjustments will have a cumulative effect over time you will achieve your goals of suppressing your appetite much more easily.

But first, let me catch you up on the basics and importance of fiber to your health.

Dietary fiber, also called bulk or roughage, are found in grains, fruits, and vegetables.  It is mostly composed of cellulose, a component of the cell walls of plants.  Fiber cannot be digested by the body, simply passing through the digestive tract.  Although it contains no calories, vitamins, or minerals, and is mainly made up of complex carbohydrates, fiber is still considered an important part of a healthy diet.  Fiber comes in two forms, soluble and insoluble.

As I’ve already mentioned, fiber is a natural appetite suppressant, and a great aid to lose weight.  In addition, people who suffer from constipation are helped along by eating more fiber.  The risks of bowel problems, like hemorrhoids and bowel and colon cancers, are reduced.  Fiber also plays a role in stabilizing glucose levels and reducing cholesterol levels in the blood.

Regardless of whether you are trying to lose weight or not, a high-fiber diet offers other health benefits.  You will not only be staying fit, but promoting good health too.

You can start off gradually switching to a high-fiber diet with the following simple meal ideas:

  • For breakfast, you can have:
    • Porridge oats
    • Bran muffins
    • Cereals made of wheat or grains
    • Whole wheat/grain toast
    • Fresh fruit smoothie or puree
  • For lunch, you can have:
    • Vegetable soup and whole grain/wheat bread
    • Sandwich using whole grain/wheat bread
    • Whole grain/wheat toast with beans
    • Whole grain pasta salad
    • Nuts and seeds
    • Fresh fruit salad
  • For dinner, you can have:
    • Whole grain pasta or rice with any sauce or viand
    • Stir fried vegetables
    • Enchiladas using whole grain/wheat tortillas and beans or vegetables
    • Vegetable chili with kidney beans

You don’t have to spend money on Appesat to suppress your diet and lose weight.  There are other simpler, cheaper, and, most importantly, healthier options.  Switching to a high-fiber diet is the best way to go, but if you still want to take an appetite suppressant, pure hoodia gordonii is a better choice.
